The
Sand Creek Massacre

This exhibit recounts the Sand Creek Massacre, Colorado's deadliest day on record. In 1864, the US Army attacked a camp at Big Sandy Creek, leaving over 230 women, children, and elders dead.

Consulting with tribal representatives, our team of five from History Colorado ensured the exhibit was respectful to descendants. This process taught me valuable lessons about collaboration and trust-building.

Through this partnership, I gained insights into the complexities of history-telling. By acknowledging diverse perspectives, our team aimed to create an empathetic and accurate portrayal of the past, honoring the significance of the Sand Creek Massacre and its enduring impact.
